As normal, most days around here start any time between 3:30am and 5am. Normally this revolves around a dog reconfiguration in the bedroom but this morning I got to sleep in until almost 5am. Pepper was lying right by the bedroom door, but when I sat up in bed and put my slippers on, she got on the bed for a customary morning cuddle, so I wished her a happy birthday and went to my (home) office and logged in.
We got Pepper (Clementine) from Salvaged Souls Rescue in Keller, TX and she’s been a wonderful human and canine companion. Yesterday I had taken my normal home made dog biscuit recipe and made a “cake” from it, meaning a softer texture.

That was the pre-baked version so when the idle puppy got up at 6:15am, I presented her with her birthday present (a large carrot toy) and the cake.

Of course, that’s a huge cake so after the obligatory photo shoot, I sliced it into a dozen slabs and put most in the fridge for the coming days. I also took three slabs and put them in bags to give to my good friends dogs to enjoy.
Since she’s a bundle of high energy, I took her to a dog daycare and boarding facility locally and dropped her off for her first intro there – we think we’ll drop her off there once a week or so so she gets some exposure to other people/situations/dogs and have fun – and more importantly, tire her out :). She did well. After a lovely dinner (that may also have involved some Sea Bass skin), she’s napping.

A good first birthday, we hope.
